The secret to patience is finding something else to do in the meantime. So I'm going to paint the dining room or "the game room" as it's usually called since it doesn't see many meals. That'll keep me busy until the weekend rolls around and Cody and I can argue, er, I mean pick out what type of flooring we'd like. I'm thinking Armstrong linoleum or Forbo marmoleum tiles using three different colours in a basket weave pattern taken directly from a 1950's linoleum catalogue. I'm just not 100% sure of my colour choices. I'll need something that is going to hide the dirt brought in by three dogs, not bring attention to it. Whatever we pick we'll be stuck with so this is not a decision to be made lightly.
What we did manage to do this weekend was pick up a 1952 Moffat stove for $50. It's so beautiful and VERY heavy but we managed to fit it into the back of the SUV without breaking our backs. Unfortunately the stove is beyond our novice ability to restore but no fear! I have ANOTHER Moffat stove which DOES work but needs a few cosmetic changes. So 1952 stove is going to donate some of his organs like his gorgeous chrome handles and temperature control before he is hauled off to the dump(also known as the garage).

We also went to an informal estate sale which was a total bust. However, it was a few blocks away from a flea market so we made the best of the drive and checked it out. I snagged two pink and highly desirable pink Fire King mugs and 9 Hazel Atlas pink ruffle saucers for 55 cents a piece. What luck!

Here are some of the other treasures I found these past 2 weeks or so:
An olive green pyrex casserole with gold scroll and flowers. I've never seen this pattern before.

An adorable bird feeder still in it's box.

A salad set still in it's box!

My most favourite thing at the moment is this barkcloth which I'll have made into curtains. There's enough here to do three windows.

I believe this panther is Royal Haeger but unmarked. If so, this will be my second Haeger piece, the other being a swan planter. LOVE Haeger. This guy is like 21 inches long!

The upcoming weeks should be exciting where we can finally start moving along with the project! So stay tuned!
most excellent catches! Stove is beautiful. ... I love the textiles - ...
ReplyDeleteMay I suggest colours for the kitchen floor? Dark red (cabernet we'll say) black and cream. Yes, sounds weird, but my old floor was some mishmash of these colours and it was pretty good at showing that I wasn't a clean freak - but it was also very retro (it was 40s original I think). Love your blog!
Hey N,
ReplyDeleteNot weird at all(and come on you should know me better by now....I LOVE weird)! I was thinking black, dark red and maybe grey so we are kinda on the same page! Check out Retro Renovations blog for just how weird and wacky the patterns can be. http://retrorenovation.com/2010/01/22/30patterns-for-vinyl-floor-tiles-from-1955/
